The CSP Tracing Utility

The CSP Tracing Utility provides CSP developers with a detailed log of interactions between applications and one or more target Cryptographic Service Providers (CSPs).

Overview

The purpose of The Tracing CSP is to log the values of CryptoAPI parameters passed between an application and a CSP running in any Microsoft Windows-based operating system, and to display that log in a complete and meaningful format.  This makes The Tracing CSP very useful to CSP developers because it allows a developer to:

• Understand the usage patterns of Microsoft’s CryptoAPI by typical applications.
• View the interactions between programs and the default Microsoft CSPs in order to better understand what is required of any new CSPs.
• Test a CSP under development by comparing its output with the expected output.
• Quickly identify unexpected errors that may occur in a CSP under development.
• Test and verify the operation of a CSP under development in real-world conditions.
• Perform detailed analysis of the operation of a CSP under development even when driven by time-critical applications.

Ordering Information

The CSP Tracing Utility product has been discontinued due to the increasing number of countries that are passing laws against selling software that can be used as a hacking tool.  My intent has always been to help manufacturers bring better personal security tools to market, but I have to admit, the tracing tool makes a great password stealer.  Since I don't have the resources to stay current with multi-national law, it was easier to just remove the product from the general market.  If a U.S. company with more resources is interested in buying the sources, please contact me!
